wildfire

wildfire.
so deep in my soul.
blazing out of control.
fiercely burning each bright goal.

       no one hears my plea.
       no attention paid to me.
       there’s no lasting guarantee.

wildfire.
the fear fans the flame,
leaving nothing to reclaim.
in spite of all i overcame,
i have no one else to blame.

       breaking out, breaking free.
not contained, too far to see.
       wanting badly just to flee.

wildfire.
smoldering embers for eternity.
ashy smoke becomes my destiny.
time to pick through charred debris.

What a journey that poem was, so alive, so intense, so vital. Thank you.

Rather than a full poem, I have a little dialogue that’s been running through my head since the start of the year.
I start with a kind of mantra ‘show me the magic’, then I smile to myself and say ‘I choose to be the magic’. Sure, how else could I see it if I didn’t choose to be it.

  2. Thank you for the invitation to pause and write the poetry that wants to come through me, particularly now, at a time when so much of my writing feels purposeful rather than soulful. Wishing you the very best of luck with this launch. I know your clients will be served deeply by your wisdom. xxoo

You are a gifted poet, April.

Honestly, I am one of those people who “doesn’t get” poetry. But I get yours. Oh boy, do I get yours. Beautiful and profound.
