i do not think SELFISH is a bad word.

no, not at all.

selfishness is concern with one's own interests.

being selfish = thinking of self.

so, in my opinion, being selfish = self-care.

self-care is:

fundamental.

necessary.

vital.

critical.

essential.

embracing is mandatory.
