losing the citrusy scent
i no longer am able to take pleasure in the citrusy scent of a freshly cut orange, the perfumed air from a bouquet of roses, the sweet powdery smell of a baby's soft skin.
we live our lives through our senses, and i've lost my sense of smell. when one sense is cut off from us, we can't help but experience the world in a different way.
a bit muted perhaps, less intense for sure. missing something crucial, just within our reach.
i either have to rely more heavily on my remaining senses, hoping they will heighten and compensate. or merely surrender to the less-than-robustness i feel.
sometimes we have full command of all of our senses, yet we still choose to experience things only halfway. we shut ourselves off from the wholeness of sensations, and dull all the glitter that life has to offer.
because of laziness or discontent, perhaps complacency, or is it fear? we decide that it's not worth the effort, that living an effervescent life isn't for us.
sometimes we hold deluded assumptions that guide us into dangerous autopilot. secure in our beliefs, simply because others have said so. secure in our beliefs, simply because others share them.
don't you want to feel truly alive, exuding strength while blooming and blossoming, conscious and aware, advancing, firing on all cylinders?
don't you want to make every possible effort, to think your own thoughts, to not only survive, but to flourish as well?
then be sure to IGNITE all of your senses. to set them on fire and THRIVE.
