a funny thing, dreams.

oh-so-close to feeling a bit of exquisite closure,
because our kitchen is oh-so-close to being finished!

cucina cabinets

it will be over four months that we’ve fed ourselves without one.
five, if you start counting from the moment we packed
and shipped off our plates and our spoons.

two weeks in a bed-n-breakfast followed, then one and a half months
with only a mini fridge, microwave, and hot plate.
making daily treks, down down down the steps,
to the cold-room-with-the-sink to wash our dirty dishes.
and the last two months have consisted of pseudo-cooking
in a partially-finished very-dusty appliances-only space.

soon. soon. very soon.
villa magnolia’s charming (and a bit quirky) cucina will soon be revealed.
and one more box will be checked off towards fulfilling a dream.

trust your crazy ideas (crop)

a funny thing, dreams.
they’re great fun to come up with, to imagine and devise.
they’re damn difficult to see all the way through to their satisfying end.

crazy hard work, that’s what following a dream is.
but you know what?
working hard to follow that dream feels a lot like truly living.
making the most of the time given,
before animated existence becomes inanimate.

so even if your big dream seems like the CRAZIEST thing ever,
DON’T LET GO OF IT.
it may well be the most life-changing, transformational MOVEMENT of your life.

but how do you know?
how do you know if it’s the right path to follow?
how do you know if your dream has real substance behind it?

you need to assess it, adjust it.
are you on the road to accomplishing what you’ve set out to do?
or do you find yourself shying away from what you’d intended,
going in other directions?

you need to test it, try it.
do you feel the same tingle of excitement that you had
when you first dreamed it up?
or do you just feel apprehension, perhaps fear, when you think about it?

you need to calculate it, calibrate it.
do you need to shift the way you’ve been doing things so far?
or more importantly, has your actual goal (your dream destination) changed?

i encourage you to choose your dream,
and then to clarify it.

when you’ve done the preliminary work,
it’ll be time to chase that dream down,
doing whatever hard work is necessary.

until one day, at last, you will reach your goal.
you will catch your dream and hold tight to its rewards.

the future's so bright 4

The suspense is killing me!! Your journey towards dream-achievement has been so inspirational to watch. You have never sugar-coated your experience. And yet, you so beautiful encourage with words like, “working hard to follow that dream feels a lot like truly living.” Amen to that, Sister! The reality is more beautiful than any sugar-coating could ever provide. Beautiful post – beautiful journey!!
